~ Daniel Masuch ~ |
Born in 1964, in Hamm, Germany, Daniel Masuch completed his harpsichord studies at the Musikhochschule in Münster in 1991. He then directed his musical education to jazz piano between 1992-1998 in Arnheim and Hamburg. Masuch specialized in contemporary improvisational music. The development of his musical style was especially influenced through lessons with Rob van den Broeck und John Taylor and through courses with Richie Beirach, Enrico Pieranunzi and Paul Bley. Masuch’s success spans decades as both leader and sideman in various combinations from solo to ensemble work. This is documented in numerous concerts and CD recordings, as well as radio and television broadcasts in Germany and internationally. Performances with diversified musical constellations (Moonstone, Handle with Care, In2it, El Sofá Rojo, La Ciacona) are enriched by his strengths as accompanist, soloist, arranger and composer. Recent projects of interests include: “The Bill Evans Project” with Christiane Hagedorn (voc), Alex Morsey (bass) and Wolfgang Eckholt (drums). This project deals solely with the works of renowned pianist Bill Evans, adapted by Masuch for piano trio and voice. (Premiered 2006 at the Bechstein Center, Münster). |

Album-Releases: As soloist: »The Home Within« Daniel Masuch, 2010(u. a. Jazzadaptationen from Bach- and Mozart- pieces)
»Traces of Light« Daniel Masuch, 2006 (u. a. Jazzadaptationen from Bach- and Mozart- pieces) As a tribute to his dual education in both classic and jazz, Masuch renders a smooth connection between the simple sublimity of a Bach-Sarabande and the free flowing possibilities of a jazz pianist, as heard on his recording “Traces of Light”. At the onset, the piece resonates with familiar melodic patterns that are immediately set against an improvisation on the original theme. In the end, the harmonically altered theme eases into a discret “Latin” feeling. The listener experiences similar surprises with a Mozart-Adagio, and well-known hymns, but also in pure jazz material such as Masuch’s interpretation of the old standard “Make Someone Happy”.
»Solo Piano« Daniel Masuch, 2004 (Jazzstandards und Eigenkompositionen) With the exception of two Gershwin standards and a Kenny Wheeler composition, “Solo Piano” consists of Daniel Masuch originals.
